What do you clean when company is coming and everything needs to be cleaned. Six things.

Front yard and porch. Toys. Sweep. Rugs. Cobwebs.
Random piles inside. Mail, keys, books, returns.
The bathroom. You cannot skip it. Baseboards and showers.
Icky stuff. Baseboards, cabinet smears, dining chairs. Then dust, Windex, sweep, mop.
Set the table and a simple centerpiece. Greenery in a sugar mold. Foil on a taper candle to stand it up.
Overhead lights off. Lamps on. Candles. Instrumental music.

Even if you only get through step 2, the house will be a long way toward ready for guests.
